In our ongoing "Meet the Team" series, we're taking you behind the scenes to meet more of the minds powering Greywing's mission.
Today, we're talking with Albert Shim, Front End Engineer at Greywing. Albert shares how the company's one-week sprints have become the heartbeat of innovation, allowing Greywing to navigate the complex waters of the maritime industry..
Albert Shim is a firm believer in iterative development, and at Greywing, one-week sprints are the cornerstone.
"We plan on Tuesdays, discuss blockers on Thursdays, and by the end of Wednesday the following week, we release something new," Albert explains.
These one-week sprints allow Greywing to adapt quickly to the ever-changing maritime landscape. "In an industry as dynamic as maritime, a week can be a lifetime. Our one-week sprints enable us to pivot rapidly, whether adapting to new regulations or responding to customer feedback," Albert elaborates.
When Albert first joined Greywing, he was struck by the maritime industry's digital lag. "It's an old-school sector with a lot of room for digital transformation," he says.
But Greywing is not just about digitizing existing processes; it's about reimagining them at a pace that was previously unthinkable. "We're not just making things digital; every week, we're making them better, more efficient, and more user-friendly," Albert adds.
One of the ways that Greywing is encouraging this is by our remote-first culture. "Working with a global team infuses our product with diverse perspectives and creativity," Albert notes. This flexibility complements our innovation approach, allowing for a seamless flow of ideas and rapid iterations. "The remote-first culture is not just a work arrangement; it's a strategic advantage. It allows us to tap into global talent and insights, which is invaluable in an industry as global as maritime." Greywing’s approach means that no matter where in the world the team is, we're all synced up, focused, and driving forward together.
Albert also plays a role in client meetings, gathering valuable feedback to steer the product in the right direction. "Our development cycle is deeply influenced by our customer's needs. We create, we get feedback, and we improve," he says. This rapid feedback loop ensures that Greywing always aligns with its customers' most pressing needs.
Greywing's approach depends on this customer-centric philosophy. "Listening to our customers doesn't just make our product better; it makes our entire approach more agile. We can quickly adjust our development priorities based on real-world feedback, ensuring that we're always focused on delivering the most value," Albert emphasises.
As Greywing continues to innovate, our methodologies focus on digital transformation, embrace remote work, and tune into the innovation needs of the industry; it’s setting new benchmarks in the maritime sector. Albert Shim and the rest of the team are at the helm of this exciting journey, and they're just getting started.
"If you're not moving forward, you're falling behind. And in an industry as dynamic as maritime, standing still is not an option. That's why we're committed to continuous innovation and improvement," Albert concludes.
